Social Security Agreement signed with Moldova

On June 2, 2025, Switzerland and the Republic of Moldova signed a social security agreement in Bern. The agreement coordinates the social security systems of the two contracting states in the areas of old-age, survivors', and disability insurance, and specifically regulates the payment of pensions abroad.

The agreement governs the relationship between Switzerland and Moldova in the field of social security. It is consistent with other social security agreements concluded by Switzerland and follows international standards. It covers old-age, survivors', and disability insurance—specifically Switzerland's AHV (Old Age and Survivors Insurance) and IV (Disability Insurance).

The agreement ensures broad equal treatment of insured persons, facilitates access to benefits, and regulates the payment of pensions abroad. It thus makes it easier for Moldovan nationals to return to their home country. Furthermore, the agreement promotes economic exchange between the two countries by facilitating the posting of personnel to the other state. It also provides a basis for combating abuse.

The agreement will now be submitted to the parliaments of both countries for approval.
